real estate agent interview

You might be surprised that landing a job as a Realtor in Denver, is easier than you thought. Since you are paid on commission, the broker isn’t at much risk to hire the right person. The more agents they have the better. You usually won’t be taking up much office space or using too many resources to hurt their company.

Still you should be professional, and not take the interview lightly.

Ultimately, a job interview for the Denver Real Estate Market tests your sales skills. Be confident and show the interviewer what you are capable. What can do you for them? If you can accomplish this task early in the interview, the rest will be a breeze. And it’s great practice to tame those newbie jittery nerves.

You want to make sure to maintain eye contact, speak clearly and professionally, and exude confidence.

This becomes a lot easier when you know one little secret.

You are interviewing THEM.

With your Denver Real Estate license, you have power. Sure the brokers are the big players, and you can’t work without them. They basically own the scene. BUT there are a lot of  agencies out there with a lot of different ideals and offers. You want to find your perfect fit. See if you can talk to a few and not jump at the first opening if you don’t have to. In reality though, as a new Real Estate Agent with no experience, you might go through a few companies before you settle in.

If ink is still wet on your license, you might need to find and agency that can train you.

So many agencies don’t have time to train new recruits. They won’t even be able to answer small questions. These people are BUSY. If you have found yourself in this position, don’t take it personally. And don’t think badly of the Agency or the people around you. In this industry, you might have to show a little something to get some attention.

There are some questions to ask before you get into a not so ideal situation.

Is there Someone that can help walk me through my first sale?
Help with Sales. There are a lot of moving pieces to a real estate sale. It might be confusing and scary at first. Make sure there is someone available to help you through your first one. Like I said, these people are busy, so do as much homework as you can first.

If you’re not a natural salesperson, read a few books on general sales and talking to people. Absolutely study about offers, negotiation, and closing a sale. It also doesn’t hurt to use all that knowledge studying for your license exam to practice with friends and family looking to sell or buy a home.

Also, get to know the process in the real world. Learn about home inspections and what types of things will hold up a sale. Find out who the Loan and Title company will be and how long it takes to close a loan. Learn about vetting buyers so you send qualified people to the bank.

Who Can I talk to that will help with Contracts and Paperwork?
Help with Paperwork. As an Agent, you will be required to understand and explain contracts correctly and in a legal manner. If your expertise lacking, it’s time to bone up on this as well. There are some important conditions of a contract that the experts know to include.

As an inexperienced agent you might come across details through the process that might stump you. It’s good to have access to someone who can help when you have specific questions.

What kind of Marketing Do you Do and Can I market outside these Boundaries?
Help with Marketing. A good Real Estate Agent knows how to market to get a home sold. Whether it’s through a network, the newspaper or other more creative forms of marketing, the best way to do well is to market well.

The agency you’re interviewing might have their own forms of marketing. You should know what they are. You should also find out what other ways are acceptable to add to your marketing efforts. If you have ideas about marketing, make sure to ask if they allow it. A good Agency will have tried and true marketing that has worked over time. They should be able to express this. But if you also have out of the box ideas that you would like to experiment with, be sure to ask if its allowed. You may have to use your own dime at first, but who knows, if you do well, you might be adding great value to the Agency.
